This profile covers 4 tests: follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2) and progesterone. The first two are the pituitary signals that drive the ovaries; estradiol is the ovaries' main output; progesterone shows whether ovulation has taken place.
Because each one is only meaningful next to the others. A modest estradiol means something quite different when FSH is high than when FSH is low, and progesterone can only be judged once you know where in the cycle the sample was taken. The pattern carries the information, not any single value.
That depends on what your doctor is looking for: assessing ovarian reserve, confirming ovulation and reviewing treatment each favour a different point in the month. Ask your doctor which day they want before booking, and count from the first day of your period when you tell us.
Progesterone is the marker that helps answer it, because it rises only after an egg is released. The result depends heavily on the day it was drawn, so your doctor will nominate a point in the second half of your cycle and interpret it alongside your cycle diary.
