Key Takeaways
  • A home blood test at Intel Lab is a standard venous blood draw by a DHA-licensed phlebotomist, tested in the same DHA-licensed, ISO 15189:2022-accredited laboratory in Deira, with the same turnaround as a lab visit.
  • Packages start at AED 89 and single tests at AED 15. You choose home collection or a lab walk-in when you book.
  • Home visits run 7 days a week from 6am to 9pm, need at least 4 hours' notice, need no doctor's referral, and need an Emirates ID or passport.
  • For fasting tests, drink plain water only: at least 8 hours for a fasting glucose and 10 to 12 hours for a fasting cholesterol test, so an early morning slot works best. Tell us if you take biotin, which can distort some results.

Booking a blood test at home in Dubai raises the same practical questions every time: who actually comes to the door, whether there is a collection fee, whether you need to fast, and whether a sample taken in your living room is as reliable as one taken at a lab. The answers are simpler than most booking pages make them look.

This guide explains how home blood collection works at Intel Lab, what it costs, how to prepare, which samples can and cannot be collected at home, and what to do when your results arrive.

Important: This article is for general education and does not replace medical advice. Laboratory results should always be interpreted by a licensed physician in the context of your individual history and examination.

What is a home blood test in Dubai?

A home blood test is a standard laboratory blood test where the sample is collected at your home, office or hotel instead of at the lab. At Intel Lab, a DHA-licensed phlebotomist (a trained specialist in drawing blood, whom you may also see called a nurse on our site) takes a venous sample from a vein in your arm, exactly as it would be taken at the lab. The sample is then tested at our laboratory in Deira, which is licensed by the Dubai Health Authority and accredited by EIAC to ISO 15189:2022.

Only the place where the blood is drawn changes. The test, the equipment and the physician review stay the same. It is not a finger-prick kit that you post back yourself.

How does home blood collection work, step by step?

A home blood test at Intel Lab follows six steps, from booking to your report.

  1. Book. Book online with guest checkout (no account needed), on WhatsApp, or walk in to the lab at Al Hawai Building, Al Rigga Road, Al Muraqqabat, Deira. Choose a home slot at least 4 hours ahead. There is no limit on how far in advance you can book.
  2. Prepare. Your booking tells you whether any of your tests need fasting. The preparation section below explains what that involves.
  3. Have your ID ready. The phlebotomist will ask for your Emirates ID or passport. You do not need a doctor's referral.
  4. The visit. The phlebotomist arrives with a sealed, single-use collection kit, draws blood from a vein in your arm, and labels each tube with a barcode that links it to you.
  5. Transport. Your samples travel to the laboratory in temperature-controlled transport, tracked by barcode the whole way.
  6. Results. You receive a physician-reviewed digital report, in the same turnaround time as a lab visit.

Changing or cancelling your booking

You can reschedule free of charge online through My Bookings until 12 hours before your slot. Within 12 hours of the slot, message us on WhatsApp instead. If the phlebotomist arrives and nobody is there, the call-out fee is not refunded, so it is worth rescheduling early if your plans change.

How should I prepare for a home blood test?

Preparation depends on the test. Your booking tells you whether fasting is needed, and every package that contains at least one fasting test is marked as a fasting package. Four things matter most: fasting, time of day, your medicines and any biotin supplements.

Fasting

Fasting means no food and no drinks other than plain water. As a general guide from NHS laboratory instructions, a fasting glucose test needs at least 8 hours without food, and a fasting cholesterol test 10 to 12 hours.1 The same guidance advises avoiding tea, coffee (even black coffee) and cola while fasting, because they can affect some results.1

Home collection makes fasting easier. Book an early slot, from 6am, so most of the fast happens while you sleep, and you can eat as soon as the sample is taken.

Some international guidance now accepts non-fasting samples for routine cholesterol checks.2 Our lipid tests are set up as fasting tests, so follow the fasting instruction on your booking unless your doctor has specifically asked for a non-fasting sample. If so, tell us when you book.

Several common tests need no fasting at all, including HbA1c on its own, the Thyroid Function package and the Vitamins Profile.

Time of day

Some hormones change over the course of the day. For men being assessed for low testosterone, the Endocrine Society recommends measuring total testosterone in a morning sample taken after fasting.3 For female hormones that follow the menstrual cycle, the day of the cycle matters more than the hour, and our PCOS blood test guide explains that timing in detail. Because home collection starts at 6am, a morning sample is easy to arrange.

Your medicines

Do not stop or change any prescribed medicine for a blood test unless your doctor tells you to. If you have diabetes or take medicine that lowers blood sugar, speak to your doctor before you fast for any test.1

Biotin supplements

Biotin (vitamin B7) is sold over the counter in high-dose supplements, often marketed for hair, skin and nails. The small amounts in an ordinary multivitamin are not the concern, but high doses can cause falsely high or falsely low results on certain laboratory tests.4 If you take biotin, mention it when you book, and ask your doctor whether to pause it before testing.

On the day

  • Have your Emirates ID or passport ready.
  • Wear a top with sleeves that roll up easily.
  • If you have fainted during a blood test before, or you feel anxious about needles, tell the phlebotomist. At home, you can sit or lie down wherever you are most comfortable.

Is a home blood sample as reliable as one taken at the lab?

Yes, when it is collected and handled correctly. A venous sample drawn at home is the same sample that would be drawn at the lab, and it is tested on the same equipment by the same team. What decides whether any sample is reliable is mostly what happens before it is tested.

That stage matters more than most people realise. In a widely cited review of laboratory errors, most mistakes (between 46% and 68% of the total) happened in the pre-analytical phase, meaning before analysis: identifying the patient, collecting the sample, labelling it and transporting it.5 The analysis itself is the most tightly controlled part of the process.

This is why our home collection is built around three safeguards:

  • Sealed, single-use collection kits for every visit.
  • Barcode tracking, so each tube is linked to you from the moment it is labelled.
  • Temperature-controlled transport from your door to the laboratory.

You control the other half: fasting when asked, timing hormone tests correctly and telling us about supplements such as biotin. A well-prepared home sample is as useful as one drawn at the lab. A poorly prepared sample is equally misleading wherever it is taken.

One honest limit: home collection does not make results faster. They arrive in the same turnaround time as a lab visit.

Which samples can be collected at home?

Blood, urine, stool and HPV samples can all be collected at home in Dubai. Semen analysis is the one test that must be done at the lab.

SampleAt home?How it works
BloodYesVenous draw by the phlebotomist during the visit
Spot urineYesThe phlebotomist waits for the sample, or leaves a container and collects it later
StoolYesThe phlebotomist waits, or leaves a container and collects it later
24-hour urineYes, over two visitsA container is dropped off, then picked up the next day, or you drop it at the lab
HPV, cervical sampleYesTaken by a female nurse
HPV, semen sampleYesThe nurse waits, or leaves a container and collects it later
Semen analysisNoLab visit only

Some packages include more than blood. The Advanced, Executive, Elite and Master Health Checkups all include a stool analysis, and every checkup from the Basic Health Checkup up includes a urine analysis, so plan for these when you book.

Who is home blood testing for, and when is it the wrong choice?

Home blood testing suits anyone who would rather not travel to a lab. It is especially practical for:

  • People with full working days. Collection runs from 6am to 9pm, seven days a week, at home or at the office. Companies can also arrange on-site collection for their staff.
  • Older relatives and anyone with limited mobility. There is no travel and no waiting room.
  • Families with children. We test people of all ages. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian present, and you must be 18 or over to book a test for yourself.
  • Anyone having a fasting test. An early slot means you do not travel while hungry, and breakfast can follow straight after.
  • Visitors to Dubai. Collection is available at hotels, and a passport is accepted as ID.
  • Anyone who values privacy. For sensitive tests such as sexual health screening, a home visit avoids a public waiting room. Our guide to STD testing in Dubai explains those panels.

When a home test is the wrong choice:

  • Emergencies. Chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of a stroke, or any symptom that is severe or sudden needs emergency care now. Call 998 for an ambulance or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not book a blood test and wait for results.
  • Same-hour needs. A home visit needs at least 4 hours' notice.
  • Semen analysis. This is done at the lab only.

Which home blood test should I start with?

If your doctor has asked for specific tests, book exactly those. If you are choosing for yourself, start from your reason for testing rather than the largest package. The table below is a starting point, not a diagnosis.

How often to repeat a test is a decision for your doctor, based on your results, your history and any treatment. A single check-up is a snapshot. Repeating the same tests at the same laboratory makes changes over time easier to read.

What should I do when my results arrive?

Read the physician's notes on your report first, then share the report with your own doctor. Every Intel Lab report is reviewed by a physician, but what a result means for you depends on your symptoms, history and medicines, and only a doctor who knows all three can put them together.

Three points help when reading any blood test report:

  • A result just outside the range is not automatically a problem. Most reference ranges are set to cover the middle 95% of results from healthy people, so roughly 1 in 20 healthy people will have any single result slightly outside it.6
  • A normal result does not rule everything out. If your symptoms continue, tell your doctor, even if every number is in range.
  • Ranges belong to the laboratory. Each lab sets reference ranges for its own methods, so compare each result with the range printed on the same report, and track changes at the same lab where you can.6

If a result is clearly abnormal, follow the advice on your report and contact your doctor promptly. If you have a question about what a marker measures, you can ask a clinician.

Book a home blood test in Dubai

A DHA-licensed phlebotomist comes to your home, office or hotel anywhere in Dubai, 7 days a week from 6am to 9pm. Book the Basic Health Checkup, choose another package from the tables above, or ask a clinician first if you are not sure which test you need.

This article is for general education and is not a substitute for medical advice. A home blood test is not an emergency service: for chest pain, difficulty breathing or any sudden, severe symptom, call 998 or go to the nearest emergency department. Intel Lab Diagnostics is licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (licence 0046381) and accredited by EIAC to ISO 15189:2022. Prices and turnaround times were verified on 1 October 2026.
